Biometric Device Integration

Companies that record attendance with fingerprint or face terminals normally have to copy the logs into Odoo by hand. This module connects to the device over its IP address and port, downloads the punches and turns them into Odoo attendance records. It extends the Attendance app with a device configuration menu and a daily attendance log. HR officers get accurate attendance and payroll inputs without manual entry.

   Register the device

   Under Attendance > Biometric Manager > Device Configuration the user creates a device with its Machine IP, Port No, working address and company. The form is the control panel for that device.

   Map employees to device IDs

   On the employee form the field Biometric Device ID holds the user number stored on the terminal. Punches are matched to employees through this ID.

   Download attendance

   The Download Data button connects to the device using the pyzk library, reads the log and creates zk.machine.attendance rows. It raises clear errors if the library is missing or the device cannot be reached.

   Automatic download by cron

   A scheduled action calls cron_download so punches are pulled on a schedule without anyone clicking. Duplicate punches are skipped.

   Create Odoo attendance

   Each punch is classed as Check In or Check Out and the module writes check_in and check_out on hr.attendance, with a constraint against overlapping times. The device punch time and type are kept beside the record.

   Review the daily attendance log

   The Attendance log menu opens a report of punches with filters for My Attendance, Today and Current Month and grouping by date. HR uses it to audit the raw punches.

   Clear the device log

   After the data is safely downloaded the Clear Data button wipes the log stored on the terminal. It warns if the log is already empty.
