Overview

Counting stock usually means leaving the till and working in the Inventory app. This module adds an Adjust Inventory feature to the POS so staff pick products with quantities and send them as inventory adjustments. It is used by shop staff and stock controllers, and it plugs into the Point of Sale and Inventory apps through stock quants. A setting per shop turns it on and selects the inventoried location. Only storable products are accepted. The benefit is quick shelf counts and opening stock entry from the shop floor.

Usage steps

  1. 1

    Enable it on the shop

In the POS settings the manager ticks Inventory Adjustment and selects the Inventoried Location, restricted to internal or transit locations. The values are stored on the POS configuration. Without a warehouse for the company an error is raised.

    • Settings: Inventory Adjustment, Inventoried Location
    • Location usage: internal or transit
  2. 2

Pick products and quantities in the POS

In the POS the user opens the adjustment mode, adds products and enters the counted quantity of each. The lines are shown in a popup with confirm and apply buttons. Nothing changes in stock until the user confirms.

    • Popup with confirm and apply buttons
    • Counted quantity per product
  3. 3

    Create the inventory adjustment

On confirmation the create_inventory_from_pos method looks up the stock record of each product in the chosen location, sets or adds to the counted quantity and creates a record when none exists. Products that are not storable are rejected with a message. The user who counted is recorded on the record.

    • Only storable products accepted
    • Quantity set or added to existing count
    • Counting user recorded
  4. 4

    Apply the adjustment

If the user chooses to apply, the inventory is validated at once and the stock levels are updated. Otherwise the counts stay as pending adjustments that a stock manager reviews in the Inventory app. The result is a stock level that matches the physical count.

    • Apply = validate immediately
    • Confirm only = pending adjustment
    • Stock updated after validation
