Disallow Negative Stock

Negative stock hides errors and distorts valuation. This module makes Odoo refuse a stock operation that would drive the quantity of a storable product below zero in an internal or transit location. It is used by inventory managers and plugs into the Inventory app on products, product categories and stock locations. Exceptions can be granted per product, per category or per location. The benefit is accurate stock levels and reliable valuation.

   Default behaviour: negative stock refused

   After installation every storable product is protected. When a transfer would leave a quant below zero the validation stops. The rule is enforced as a constraint on the stock quantity.

   Allow it per product

   On the product form the Allow Negative Stock checkbox exempts that product. It is useful for items that are consumed before receipts are recorded. Other products remain protected.

   Allow it per category

   The product category form has the same checkbox next to the removal strategy. Ticking it exempts every product of the category. This covers large families at once.

   Allow it per location

   The stock location form gets the checkbox after the location type, so a specific location can go negative. An operation is blocked only when both the product and the location disallow negatives. Virtual locations are never checked.

   Error message on validation

   When a transfer is validated and would create negative stock the user gets a message naming the product, the lot if any, the resulting quantity and the location. The transfer stays undone until stock is corrected. The user can receive stock first or use an exemption.
