PDF Report Designer

Business users often need a simple PDF listing of a model without a developer. This module adds a Report designer where the user picks a model, chooses the fields to print and optionally a date field with a range. It can create an Action or Print menu entry on the model and a wizard prints the result. It depends only on base, so it works with any installed model.

   Create a report design

   Open the PDF Report menu and create a record with a report name. Choose the model from the list of models. The record then holds the design.

   • Fields: Name, Model
   • Model: report.pdf

   Pick the fields to view

   On the Fields To View page add lines choosing model fields with a label and type. Relations are handled. The order of lines sets the printed column order.

   Set a date range

   Choose a date field and set start and end dates to limit records. Leave empty to print everything. The range is applied when the report runs.

   Add an action button

   Tick Action button and choose whether the entry is under Action or Print. The module binds an action to the model so the report appears in its menu. Remove it with the unlink action button.

   Print the report

   Press Print in the designer or use the model menu entry, which opens the wizard. The wizard receives the design and date range and returns the PDF. Cancel closes it.

   Reuse and maintain designs

   Saved designs can be reused any time and edited to add fields. Deleting a design also removes its bound action. Users share designs across teams through access rights.
