Overview
This module lets Odoo play an audio file or speak a text message to users in the browser. Administrators define named alerts of type sound or voice, then trigger them from Python code, automated actions or an API call. It plugs into the Odoo bus service and web client. Typical uses are new-order or approval alerts in busy back offices. The benefit is that staff notice events without watching the screen.
Usage steps
- 1
Create an alert
From Sound Alert > Alerts the user creates an alert with a name and chooses the alert type Sound or Voice. The form then shows the fields relevant to the type. The list view shows name and type.
- Alert name
- Type: Sound or Voice
- Type-specific fields
- 2
Upload an audio file
For a Sound alert the user uploads an mp3 in the Audio File field. The file is stored as an attachment. It is played in the browser when the alert is triggered.
- Audio File (mp3) field
- Stored as attachment
- Played in browser
- 3
Write the voice text
For a Voice alert the user types the Voice Alert Text, which defaults to This is Alert!. The browser speaks the text with speech synthesis. A voice audio file is generated and stored when the record is saved.
- Voice Alert Text
- Default text provided
- Voice file generated on save
- 4
Test the alert
The Test Alert button on the form and list plays the alert immediately for the current user. This confirms the sound or voice works before it is wired to a real event.
- Button: Test Alert
- Plays for current user
- Verify before wiring
- 5
Trigger from code or API
The form shows ready-made examples for calling the alert from Python, for sending to admin or demo users and for custom text. Developers copy these into automated actions. The browser receives the event over the bus and plays it.
- Python call examples
- Send to specific users
- Custom text example
