Overview
Accountants need to know a customer's or vendor's running balance while working on an invoice. This module adds two monetary fields to the invoice showing the partner balance before the invoice and after its effect. The values are computed from the invoice type and stored at posting so the figures stay fixed. It plugs into Accounting.
Usage steps
- 1
Open an invoice
Create or open a customer invoice or vendor bill in Accounting. Once a partner is selected the balance fields are shown.
- Select the partner
- Fields on invoice form
- 2
Balance before invoice
The partner balance before this invoice is computed from posted receivable and payable data. It shows the position before the document.
- partner_balance_before_invoice
- Monetary in invoice currency
- 3
Invoice effect
A helper computes the effect of the invoice depending on whether it is an invoice or a credit note. This is added to or subtracted from the balance.
- Sign by move type
- Credit notes reduce balance
- 4
Balance after invoice
The after-invoice balance equals the before value plus the invoice effect. It gives the customer's expected balance once posted.
- partner_balance_after_invoice
- Visible before posting
- 5
Freeze on post
The post action stores the computed figures on the invoice. They stay unchanged on later payments and are useful for audits.
- Values saved at post
- Useful in printed statements
