Overview
Stock users often need to know what the quantity was before a movement and what it became, and salespeople want to see stock at the time of an order. This module adds two stored columns on stock move lines, balance before and balance after, filled when the operation is done. It also computes them on sales order lines and freezes them at confirmation. It plugs into Inventory and Sales, with a company setting to show the balance on sales orders.
Usage steps
- 1
Enable balance on sales orders
In the settings the administrator switches on Balance Before/After on Sales Orders. The option is stored on the company and copied onto each order. When off, stock move balances are still stored but the sales columns stay hidden.
- Setting: Balance Before/After on Sales Orders
- Stored per company
- Order carries its own flag
- 2
Balance stored on each stock move
When a stock operation is done the module computes the on-hand quantity before the move and after it, for the relevant location, and stores both numbers on the move. The values are visible on move lines and pickings and do not change later when new operations arrive. They give a permanent trace of the stock at that moment.
- Fields: balance before, balance after
- Computed when the move is done
- Shown on pickings and move lines

Read the balance on a picking
The picking form shows the two columns on the operations lines. The warehouse user sees how the validated quantity changed the stock. Extra columns can be hidden with the list options.
- Two columns on operations lines
- Read-only stored values
- Optional columns

Balance on sales order lines
On a sales order the lines show the on-hand balance before and after the ordered quantity, taking the remaining undelivered quantity into account. The salesperson can see at a glance whether stock covers the order. The columns appear only when the order flag is on.
- Fields on order lines
- Considers remaining quantity
- Shown only when the flag is on
- 5
Freeze the balance at confirmation
On confirming the order the module writes the computed balances so they represent the stock at that time. Later stock movements do not alter them. This gives a reliable record of what the seller saw when committing.
- Written in action confirm
- Not changed by later moves
- Audit of stock at commitment
