Overview
Users open a product and cannot tell at a glance whether it is out, low or fine, nor where the stock sits. This module adds a Stock Status badge, computed from the reordering rules, and a warehouse balance summary to the product template and variant forms. Statuses are Out of Stock, Low Stock, In Stock and Not Configured, and they can be searched. The display is guarded so users without Inventory rights simply see no badge, never an error.
Usage steps
- 1
Configure reordering rules
The badge relies on the standard reordering rules of Inventory. The stock manager sets a minimum quantity for the product. Products with no rule show the status Not Configured.
- Uses standard reordering rules
- Minimum quantity is the threshold
- No rule means Not Configured
- 2
Status is computed
The status is computed from the on-hand quantity and the lowest positive minimum among the product's rules. Zero or negative stock gives Out of Stock, stock at or below the minimum gives Low Stock, otherwise In Stock. It recomputes whenever the quantity changes.
- Field: Stock Status
- Out, Low, In Stock, Not Configured
- Depends on on-hand quantity
- 3
Badge on the product form
The badge is shown on the product template and product variant forms next to the name. Its colour follows the status so the user reads it instantly. The badge hides itself when the value is empty.
- On template and variant forms
- Colour by status
- Hidden when empty
- 4
Warehouse balance summary
A read-only HTML block lists the on-hand quantity of the product in each warehouse. Storekeepers see where the stock physically sits without opening reports. It is computed from the quants.
- Field: Warehouse Stock Balance
- Quantity per warehouse
- Computed from quants
- 5
Search and filter by status
The status can be used in the search bar and in filters even though the quantity is not stored. Matching products are resolved in Python with the standard operators. This lets the buyer list all Low Stock products.
- Searchable computed field
- Standard operators supported
- List all Low Stock products
- 6
Safe for users without Inventory rights
Any internal user can open a product form, so the module checks read access on quants and reordering rules first. Without access the badge and summary stay empty and the form opens normally. The badge therefore never blocks a form.
- Access checked before reading
- Empty display without rights
- Form always opens
